Kyiv Ukrainian Dance Ensemble and School has been performing traditional Ukrainian folk dances since 1952 and under the name “Kyiv” since 1982. Practices are held at SS. Ridna Shkola School of Ukrainian Studies of Pittsburgh provides instruction in Ukrainian language, history, and art to children grades K-12. Native Ukrainian-speaking teachers for students who speak Ukrainian at home. English-speaking teachers for students who are beginners. Sponsors annual “Mothers’ Day program and dance.
Soyuz Ukrainok/Ukrainian National Women’s League of North America, Branch 27 preserves and presents Ukraine’s rich artistic heritage at its best at the Pittsburgh Folk Festival held on Memorial Day Weekend yearly and other community events. Sponsor of the annual “Vyshyvani Vechornytsi” (Embroidered Evening) Dinner/Dance.
Ukrainian Community of Western Pennsylvania (UCOWPA) was organized in 2009 with the goal of creating a Ukrainian cultural center in the area. Ukrainian New Wave, Pittsburgh Branch was founded in 2006, hosts various events calling attention to Ukrainian issues of interest, including political events. Also hosts social events for the community.
Ukrainian Selfreliance of Western Pennsylvania Federal Credit Union (uswpfcu) is a cooperative, not-for-profit, member-owned financial institution serving the Ukrainian-American community of Western Pennsylvania. Founded in 1974 and located at 700 Washington Avenue in Carnegie, USWPFCU serves as a central location for the exchange of information in the community and has provided over $75,000 in support to Ukrainian causes since 1988. 412.481.1865 www.samopomich.com
Ukrainian Students’ Organization at the University of Pittsburgh provides fun and fellowship for students, faculty, and/or staff of any of the Pittsburgh area universities or colleges. Past events include a cultural excursion to Philadelphia and New York City, pysanky (Ukrainian Easter Egg painting) workshop, various lectures, and a month-long Ukrainian Contemporary Film Symposium. These and other events support creative expression of Ukrainian heritage as well as interest in modern-day Ukrainian issues and her unique contributions to the world. Sponsor of the annual UTS Scholarship Program; charter member of the Federation of Ukrainian American Professional and Business Associations; Hosts annual Ukrainian of the Year Dinner/Dance in November; sponsors the “Pittsburgh Ukrainians” website. ~ www.pittsburghukrainians.org ~ The scholarship program has awarded over $232,000 in scholarships since 1970 to students of Ukrainian descent, mostly locally, but also beyond the borders of the community. www.utspgh.org
University of Pittsburgh Ukrainian Language Program offers accredited courses in Ukrainian language at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Includes independent study courses, which allow students to progress at their own pace and at convenient times.
